United Airlines New Method of Speeding Up the Boarding Process
I travel a lot. I find myself on a plane heading somewhere about 6 times a year, sometimes more. One of my biggest pet peeves about flying is just the entire boarding process. They have people in groups and never mind what group you're in, everyone huddles around the entry way even though they're last but that's another issue all together.
United Airlines tested something out and it seems like they're going to stick with it. It's a new boarding process that shaves a few precious minutes off the entire process. Not a lot of time, but enough time to make a difference and have them make these changes to all United Airlines across the country.
What they're doing makes the most sense in the world.
Associated Press reported that United Airlines is going to start seating economy (coach) passengers sitting in window seats first, then middle seats, then aisle seats, in that order.
Brilliant!
This way someone doesn't rush to get to their aisle seat only to have to get up to allow the person sitting in the middle seat to get seated, then, a couple minutes later, allowing the person who is sitting in the window seat to get seated having to have the middle and aisle seat people to get up and move down the way to allow room for them.
They're calling this the WILMA method - Window, Middle, Aisle.
Though if you're traveling as a family, you can all board at the same time which makes sense if you traveling with a child and wouldn't want to be separated.
United Airlines is starting this October 26th. I'd be interested to see if other airlines like Delta or Alaska Airlines would consider this as well.
